Our Technology

The Sargas solution has received widespread recognition for its  configuration and readiness. It is based on proven and efficient pressurised coal combustion technology.  It uses compact and well proven CO2 capture equipment, employing oxygen tolerant, non-toxic and environmentally friendly mineral based CO2 absorbent.  The system is technically robust, cost effective and available.  It is comparatively simple without requirement for oxygen or hydrogen production and facilities for oxygen sensitive amines.

Power plant cost of electricity is competitive.  A benchmark study based on methodology developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), established that Sargas Cost of Electricity is below the target numbers for IGCC. Plant availability outside the maintenance period is 95% for a well operated and well maintained plant.  This includes the CO2 capture.

Plant space requirement is minimised by the pressurised, compact power production and by the pressurised CO2 capture system.  A system firing 500 MW may require about 5000 m2 excluding coal import and storage facilities, and excluding CO2 storage and export systems. Retrofitting the Sargas Ultra Clean Coal is possible for existing plants with low thermal efficiency, where CO2 capture is required.  Retrofitting involves replacing the existing large boiler with a more compact Sargas pressurised boiler, and adding the pressurised Sargas CO2 capture system.

Sargas Ultra Clean Coal Environmental Performance will satisfy the most stringent requirements. Scaleability - A modular structure supports scaling plant size upwards in steps of 100MW. Cost reduction by scaling up to 400 MW is expected to be in the range of 20 %.
